Photo Backup - Backup For Professional Photographers

What’s the worst thing that can happen to a professional photographer who makes a living making and selling memorable images? Losing your portfolio as a result of hard drive crash can happen at any time leaving you out of work for months or maybe years. Or will it leave you totally out of your profession?

No professional photographer works without a backup. The possible backup solutions are many including very costly data storage devices which make use of the raid technology. However, you should know that you can find a pretty cheap alternative with the same security level as more expensive solutions.

Backing up professional photographs is harder than backing up amateur photo albums. Why? If you are a photographer, you know why. The main reason is that professional photo shoot is done using professional equipment which requires a lot of image processing thus making an image much heavier than a regular picture. While a regular image weighs about 50 KB, a professional photograph may reach up to 5 MB in size.

This makes the overall amount of information that you need to back up extremely large and so you will require a lot of storage space to keep the backup. What adds to the problem is the fact that you probably have more photographs than a tourist with a camera in an exotic country. Well, who is to blame you, you are a pro and this is your job!

So how can you attend the problem of photo backup without losing your pictures and nerve? The answer is use the right photo backup software. The backup software is much cheaper than buying a server for storing all your photos. The photo backup software also resolves the issue of storage. It allows you to back up data to FTP servers, remote data centers via Internet or large capacity optical disk such as HD DVD and Blu-ray.

No matter which option you prefer, buying a photo backup program will turn out much cheaper than buying a special backup hard drive. Compare the price of the program ($29) with the price of a large capacity HDD ($200-300). In addition, the photo backup program takes full control of the backup process while you have to do nothing at all. It copies your photos automatically on a schedule compressing the images to the zip archive and backing them up in full or incrementally.
